Freshair Boutique

Found this picture today.  It’s one of us at the holiday lunch I had at my place.  What’s up with my face?  Anyways… We take so much for granted and I never want to forget how fortunate I am, and how much love is in my life.  Thanks girls for being the best co-workers!

HAIR CLIPS

I can’t believe I haven’t mentioned these sectioning clips!  They make any curling/straightening job a breeze because they keep the hair you aren’t working on out of the way.

I was giving a hair tutorial to my client this week and that’s when I realized the importance of theses clips.  She always thought when she would flat-iron her hair, she was to start from the top.  I let her know that starting from the top of your head is doing too much work…  If you start at the top how will you get to the underneath parts without destroying your hard work?  Well, with these sectioning clips, it’s easy!

Start at your nape and clip the hair you aren’t ironing/curling/styling up.  When you finish styling, release the clip.   Let down another section and clip up the above section.   Keep up with this system while working your hairstyle and it’ll take you less time to iron or curl or back-comb or whatever…  One only needs two of these clips and even if your hairs are short they can still come in handy.  Ask your stylist about these sectioning clips the next time you’re in your stylists chair and be prepared to wow yourself!

Who’s the real expert?

With the onset of  smart phones, EVERYONE is there-by smarter.  No one can deny the fact that when we want to know something we Google it.  When we are unsure, we check our phones.  When we have questions, we ask the internet.  It is amazing, wonderful and down right annoying.

This information age is great but it also has its draw backs.  Being in the health and beauty industry, clients always ask me questions about their hair, skin, nails…you know the usual health and beauty stuff.  It seems to me that lately I’m not being asked anymore.  Folks go online and ‘research’ what they can do for their dry scalp, or what they can ingest to make their hair shinier.  They don’t need to ask me, the expert, because they are now the experts.  You know your body and your general health issues, I don’t.   But just because you have the internet at your finger tips does not mean that you know how to make, and know what should really be, in a shampoo.  I realize that there are a lot of people out there with issues and have had to turn to the internet for answers because there wasn’t a solution for them in the medical field.  I’ve heard it all, “I have the worst dry skin and nothing my Doctor prescribed has worked.  I went on-line and found out the properties of **carrot oil** can stop dry skin.  Now I only use carrot oil on my skin and I’ve noticed that my skin feels so much better.  I also researched that certain foods I eat can make my skin more conditioned.  Thank God I had the internet to save me from the Doctor’s errant prescriptions!…”

Okay, maybe that was a little harsh but I think that we are getting a little carried away here.  When you have a headache you may pop a few Tylenol or Advil but you wouldn’t try to go online to get a treatment for your chest pains that are keeping you from breathing.  Would you?  No!  You would see a Doctor.  If your vision became blurry you might toss in some eye drops but if you consistently couldn’t see you would see an optometrist right? Right.

I guess what I’m trying to say is, it’s good to do some research and try to solve your health and wellness issues on your own, but let’s not forget the people who spent a lot of time and money in order to know plenty in their field.  There is a reason that we give out degrees and diplomas, it’s to differentiate us from each other and lets people know where you stand compared to others in your area.  When it comes to the internet, there is no measuring stick to place on each of us to say who knows more about one thing over another.  Basically, it all depends on how fast you can open up your search engine window and how fast you can type.

Peace

**I don’t know if carrot oil does any of this, I just used it as a lame example.  Please do not start ingesting copious amounts of carrot oil in hopes that your hair and/or skin will be nicer…**

MALIE SOY CANDLE

so many scents...

I did a review on this line a while back and focused on the body polish (which is awe-some) and now I wanna tell you about the candle.  They come in six different fragrances.  Coco-Van, Mango and Koke’e are the original scents that we carry in the shop now.  Pikake, Plumeria and Orchid are the new spring scents that will be here before Valentines Day.

These soy based candles burn for hours and give off an amazing but not to intense fragrance.  Malie does an amazing job at keeping the ingredients of all their products up to an environmental standard.  Come in sometime and check out the products in our boutique and stay tuned for a great Malie promo coming soon.  That’s the fresh perspective…

Hey Boys…

nice glasses, and the color of that shirt on his skin is money...

So today I decided that the boys don’t get enough love…   I’ve noticed that most salons cater to women and will always get their business in one shape or another.  Manicures, pedicures, make-up, it’s a no-brainer.  Why don’t we focus in on the boys more often?  On the third Monday of every month I will do you males a solid.  I will post male related items only.  Hair, fashion, style…whatever may pertain to men in the beauty and fashion industry.  I have a soft spot in my heart for you guys and, what can I say, you can thank me later…

I’m always checking out hair-do’s on chicks and shoes on women or handbags and accessories on gals, but every once in a while I will see an amazingly dressed man.  A man who knows his physique, and it’s strengths and weaknesses…  They know what kind of hair they have and only use it for good… They have a way, a rhythm, a cadence that is so good.  I notice and I sometimes comment but not enough.  It’s time to let you guys know what’s up.

Just like us girls, the guys who seem to always knock it out of the park in style and fashion know themselves.  They know that they have really long legs and a very thick middle.  They know what parts of their body are flattering and what parts are not.  They are also not shy or ashamed to take risks.   If you have great style and a sharp sense for fashion (and get complemented on it often) then you are in control of your body image.  I know I have really big legs so wearing short shorts is borderline ‘not flattering to my physique’.  Many women have this concept figured out and I think more men that we are aware of also have grasped the same concept.

D-becks has this concept on lock. He always looks good! In anything!

Check in on Feb 20th for the next ‘Hey Boys…’ post.
